A tour of Marajó Island offers a dive into the lush Amazonian landscape, with its buffalo, beautiful birds, and mangroves that flow into beautiful beaches.
Marajó Island is a true paradise in the Amazon region of the state of Pará. The largest fluvial-maritime island in the world is bathed by the Amazon and Tocantins rivers and the Atlantic Ocean. Its rich biodiversity, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes fascinate travelers from around the world. Imagine experiencing a 4-day immersion in everything the island has to offer?
Marajó Island
Marajó Island is in the Environmental Protection Area of the Marajó Archipelago. There are 12 municipalities full of rivers, forests, streams, and mangroves that together form a unique scenario, revealing an almost untouched part of the Amazon Rainforest.
To reach this natural paradise, you need to depart from Belém, where speedboats, boats, and ferries depart. The crossing takes an average of two to three hours to the central area of the island. Along the way, you’ll begin to understand why the region is so famous for its natural beauty.

A Dive into Nature
During a 4-day immersion, you will experience unforgettable moments. As soon as you step onto Marajó Island, you will be surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, vast mangroves, and winding rivers that cut through the landscape. It’s home to a unique variety of flora and fauna.
Beach Circuit
The first mission of the day is to check into the hotel and drop off your bags. Once that’s done, the guide will take you on a route full of sun and beach. You will visit the main beaches of the municipality of Soure, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon River.
The first is Praia do Garrote, deserted and with almost untouched nature. There you will see a white and red striped lighthouse, the Farol de Soure. But the highlight of this tour is the spectacular flock of birds, which certainly offers an unforgettable natural spectacle! Leaving there, the next stop is Praia da Barra Velha, closer to the city center. You will be impressed by the vegetation on the light sand and the exposed tree roots.
Next, the guide will take you to Praia do Céu. To get there, you will need to take a boat trip that takes 10 to 15 minutes. The beach is deserted and impresses with its white sand and lush forest in the background. A true paradise! Walking along the long stretch of sand, you will reach Praia do Caju-Una with its exuberant coconut trees. You will be amazed by so much beauty.
The last stop on this route is Praia do Pesqueiro. This is the most visited beach in Soure since it has restaurants that serve dishes based on typical fish from the island. After an intense morning, there is nothing better than having lunch by the beach, right? Enjoy this moment to the fullest!

History and Culture
In the afternoon, the guide will take you to learn about the history and culture of the city of Soure. You will visit Independence Square, the Matriz Church, and the Municipal Market. Along the way, the guide will tell you the story behind each of the tourist spots and the curiosities that only a local would know.
The immersion is completed with art and craftsmanship. You will visit the Marajoara Arts Society (Soma), where you will learn about Marajoara art and its history. Pottery is the main product. They were produced by indigenous people who painted the pieces with dyes extracted from elements of nature (such as annatto, kaolin, genipap, charcoal, and soot). It is incredible! The guide will also take you to see Marajoara ceramics at the Arte Mangue Marajó Workshop and the Cerâmica M’Barayô.
And it doesn’t stop there! You will visit the Art Couro Marajó Tannery where you will find various products made from raw buffalo leather. There are belts, bags, sandals, keychains, fridge magnets, cardholders, document holders, coin purses, and much more.
After this super busy day, the evening will be free for you to enjoy a delicious dinner or just go back to the hotel to rest!

Buffalo Route
The second day of the tour begins with a visit to São Jerônimo Farm. There you will have time to contemplate nature on a delightful canoe ride through the furos and igarapés. Then, you will be guided on a walk on a deserted beach on the farm and you will even explore a suspended trail over the mangrove. Before leaving, you will live an incredible experience by having the opportunity to ride buffaloes. It is an amazing tour!
Marajoara Culture
Leaving the farm, you will go to the Caruanas do Marajó and Ecology Institute. There you will take a guided tour by young people from the community, who study at a school inside the Institute, to learn about the ancient Marajoara culture. It is a true immersion! You will visit the Marajoara ceramic shed and also the production space. And, of course, you will have direct contact with the clay before it becomes ceramic.
In the evening, you will be enchanted by typical dances of the Marajó region such as carimbó, lundu, chula, and Amazonian legends.

Fishing Communities
The third day is dedicated to the route of fishing communities. The guide will take you to visit the artisanal fishing village and appreciate the mangrove area. You will have the opportunity to get to know the Turu – a mollusk extracted from the mangrove tree that feeds on sap and is rich in nutrients.
From there, you will head to the Vila do Céu community. Since it will be lunchtime, it is only fair to make a stop to delight in the Island’s cuisine! After lunch, the return to the hotel will be by the Tucupi igarapé. A moment to contemplate nature!

End of the Journey
On the fourth and last day, it is time to return to Belém. The departure is at 5:30 am, on the Expresso Golfinho. This itinerary can be done at any time of the year and will be the most unforgettable 4 days of your trip. It is also possible to hire guides who speak English, Spanish, and French. Just pack your bags and enjoy!
