Blumenau’s Oktoberfest has its roots in the rich German heritage that established itself in Santa Catarina. The festival began in 1984 to preserve and celebrate German culture. Since then, it has become the second largest Oktoberfest in the world.
The event is marked by the lively opening parade, where floats, folk groups and lots of traditional music run through the streets of Blumenau, kicking off the festivities, with a Brazilian touch. Blumenau’s Oktoberfest elects a queen and princesses to represent the event. The contest is an opportunity to highlight local beauty and culture.
Typical German bands, folk dances and lots of live music are part of the program. Visitors can get lost in the joy of polkas and the vibrant rhythms that liven up the party.
The gastronomy also stands out. During the festival, the “choperias” and gastronomic establishments spread across Parque Vila Germânica offer a true feast of traditional flavors. German sausages, prepared in different ways and accompanied by delicious sauces, the famous pretzels, eisbein (smoked and cooked pork knuckle), sauerkraut and typical sweets, such as strudel. All of this bathed in traditional craft beers.
